Hello!

I’m Fran, mummy to Penny who was born in September 2011. I set up Granny and I with my mum, Grazia, in September 2012.

Having Penny has been an amazing, overwhelming experience and it opened my eyes to how hard being a mum is, and consequently how hard my own mother worked bringing up me and my siblings!

I realised how important it was to have my mother nearby.  With granny taking care of the house, I could focus on getting to know Penny as well as looking after myself following the birth (by catching up with some all important sleep).  As time went on, having granny on hand became an essential part of our lives as we all felt more supported and life simply ran more smoothly.  But best of all, it was truly magical to watch the amazing bond and relationship develop between Penny and granny.

Whenever granny Grazia left we felt utterly bereft! I was nervous about leaving Penny with someone less experienced, that I felt I couldn’t trust and who was most definitely not part of my family.

As grandparents play such a crucial part in our children’s lives, we realised that many families didn’t have the support of a more experienced relative nearby.

Just like me, they need someone they can trust to look after their little ones, who will work on building long-lasting relationships with them, will be reliable, on time and a capable carer. They might feel nervous leaving their baby or small child with a less experienced carer.
